The Rosebank reopens after R254 million refurbishment

The Rosebank reopens today after a R254 million refurbishment that has turned it into one of the city’s most stylish hotels appealing to both business travellers and leisure guests alike.

The hotel’s 318 rooms have all been upgraded while the lobbies and entrances have been redesigned to create a chic, stylish yet professional facility with vibe and energy, right in the heart of Africa’s richest city. Interactivity is a big part of the design concept in the public areas of The Rosebank. The reception area of the hotel has been designed to offer guests a unique space in which they can socialise, rather than be segregated from the hotel by a long reception desk.

Through the use of vibrant colours, mood lighting, textured fabrics and ambient and subtle music, the new Rosebank has significantly enhanced its product offering. Internationally-branded Seven Colours Spa and Technogym have been added along with new conference facilities fitted with the latest technology. "We have created a high quality hotel that will offer the best of South African hospitality in the face of a growing tourism market ahead of the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup. We are very excited by the new look and we believe the market will embrace The Rosebank experience," says Andrew Rogers, Chief Operating Officer of Hospitality Property Fund, the owner of The Rosebank.

The upgrade, which took a year, has created a modern hotel equipped with innovative technology with the entire hotel now covered by wireless connectivity. The Circle Bar will be the hub of this innovation. Specially selected music will be played in the bar while unique visual effects are splashed on giant screens encircling the bar. The music and lighting is themed according to the time of day to create an all-encompassing ambience for relaxation and recreation.

Food is a key component of the offering at The Rosebank. The hotel boasts two new restaurants Butcher Block and Fresh with menus that cater for a range of culinary requirements from those wanting a traditional South African steak or a sumptuous meal prepared using only the freshest ingredients. At the Circle Bar, The Rosebank Café and lounge areas will provide lighter offerings to suit our guests every need day or night. The mood of the hotel is created by a synergy between lighting, music and even a subtle signature fragrance that will permeate the reception areas. Like the music, the scent evolves throughout the day to refresh and enliven in the day time and to create an evocative atmosphere in the evening

"In considering the refurbishment of The Rosebank, we put a lot of thought into the design, amenities and accessibility of the hotel. Time saving and convenience are important for the professionals while luxury is important for the holiday maker," says Rogers.

While the rest of the hotel is fully functional, the swimming pool, spa and the signature restaurant Butcher Block are in the final stages of completion and will be open in September.
